Industrial wet/dry vacuuming Case Studies

Dry Cleaning for HVAC

Case Study: Dry Cleaning and Vacuum-Cleaning of Large Facility HVAC

A ductwork system in a large facility was contaminated with accumulations of dust and mold.

These contaminants were suspected to be the cause of adverse health issues with occupants of the building. Eagle Services employed dry cleaning and vacuum methods to remove the materials from the duct work, then applied appropriate moldicides to mitigate mold contamination.

After project completion, building health was restored.

Dredging Water Treatment Plant

Case Study: Vacuum Dredging for a Water Treatment Plant Lagoon

A lagoon in a water treatment plant located in an exclusive residential area had 3000 cubic yards of alum sludge to be removed.

Eagle Services utilized vacuum dredging equipment to vacuum the material into roll off interceptor boxes. Cellulose, a tightening agent, was introduced as the box was filled. Eagle Services then transported the material to a sanitary landfill. In addition to the dredging equipment, noise abatement technologies were employed to minimize nuisance noise as the water treatment plant was located near a residential area.

Sewer Cleaning

Case Study: Sewer Cleaning with Rodding and Vacuum Equipment

A closed refinery had 8 miles of contaminated process sewers which needed to be cleaned and video inspected after the cleaning to document that they were free of contamination.

Eagle Services removed the debris from the sewers utilizing sewer rodding and vacuum equipment, then transported it to an on site processing area where the debris was filter pressed to separate oils, solids, and water. The oil was recovered and recycled, the solids packaged for disposal and the water cleaned so that it met the owner's NPDES permit.

Eagle Services documented the sewer cleaning with video inspection, a library of tapes, and a 2,000-page final report which was submitted to the owner. The project was completed on time and 20% under budget.

Silo Cleaning & Vacuuming

Case Study: Silo Cleaning & Vacuuming

A soy processing plant in Quincy, IL had several fires inside their storage silos. After another contractor had several failed attempts of using a pneumatic bin wips, the plant decided to call Eagle Services Corp. We created a customized action plan, job hazard safety analysis, and executed it flawlessly.

Eagle Services utilized a 20,000 PSI Pump with our 3D hurricane spinner, a specialized winch and tripod to lower the hurricane throughout the silo to remove bridging safely and successfully. Below, two vacuum trucks collected the material, swapping out for each dump.

Acid Tank Cleaning

Case Study: Acid Tank Cleaning with Jackhammers & Vacuuming

A sulphuric acid tank in Iowa developed bottom sludge.

A horizontal, 18,000 gallon spent sulphuric acid tank contained approximately 12,000 gallons of sludge. The sludge had hardened and required jackhammers to break it up for removal. The sludge was to be disposed of off site, so Eagle Services made arrangements with a reputable, licensed waste hauler and a reputable, licensed disposal facility to provide roll off boxes, transportation and disposal.

Two men were put inside the vessel wearing acid-proof coveralls over 23p Saranex suits and acid-proof boots and gloves with supplied air breathing apparatus. While one man jackhammered the material loose, the second man pulverized the material with a hand tool so it would go through a 6" vacuum hose. The material was then vacuumed up and loaded into a roll off box using a swing out cyclone vacuum truck. The exhaust from the vacuum truck blower was routed through a 3% caustic scrubber designed by Eagle Services.

As the boxes were filled, they were transported to the designated disposal facility. Upon removal of all material from the tank, the tank was rinsed using a solution of soda ash and water and then triple rinsed with fresh water.

Industrial Machinery Cleaning

Case Study: Machinery Cleaning

Numerous hydraulic oil leaks on motors, gear boxes, lines, etc. on 160" Plate Mill's overhead cranes were causing product contamination by leaking onto plates in stock storage below.

Many of the cranes had not been cleaned since the plant opened in 1964. The result was a buildup of up to 18" of baked and packed dust, grease, oils and scrap crane parts.

A concern with crane cleaning is the water and soaps from the cleaning process creating a mess in the stock storage areas below. To prevent this, Eagle Services used plastic curtains, covered stocked product, and used vacuum equipment to control liquid and debris that are created during the cleaning process.

Debris was dislodged and broken up using pneumatic hand tools and vacuumed. Eagle Services cleaning uncovered hundreds of pounds of scrap metal, electrical parts, etc. that were lowered to ground level and disposed of appropriately.

Once the vast majority of debris and scrap was removed from the crane top, a minimal amount of water and detergent was utilized with a hot water pressure washer to clean decks, runways, and in particular, around motors, gear boxes and lines. By cleaning these areas, any leaks would be visible and noted for repair. This project had to be very carefully executed due to the large amount of electrical equipment on crane tops.

At the conclusion of this project, stock storage areas were policed and left in a cleaner condition than when the project began. This project was completed safely and with extremely high satisfaction of the department.
